2024 CBT Letter for Families

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Each spring, students take the English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics tests in grades 3-8 and the Science tests in grade 5 and 8. These tests are used to measure how well students perform on New York’s Next Generation Learning Standards.

This year our school’s <Grade #> students will take the New York State <Exam subject> test on a computer.  Over the past few years, schools across New York have begun to give these state tests on a computer, and we are excited for our students to have that opportunity this year.

Please note the following:

  • Practice: Before the test is given, your child will have a chance to practice taking the test on a computer while in school. This will help your child become familiar with the online testing format. Students, educators, and parents can review and practice using the online Question Sampler (https://ny.nextera.questarai.com/tds/#practice)
  • Testing schedule: The test will be given on _____________. Your child will have as much time as your child needs, within the limit of the school day, to complete the test.
  • Accommodations: All students who receive testing accommodations for New York State tests will receive accommodations for the <Exam subject> test consistent with their 504 plan or Individualized Education Program (IEP).

If you would like to learn more about the New York State 3-8 tests and the move to computer-based testing, see this New York State Education Department web site (https://www.nysed.gov/state-assessment/parent-resources).  If you have questions on the computer-based test, or about your child’s participation, please contact <CONTACT NAME> our <position>.

Regards,

Principal

Student Participation Guide

Dear Families:

The annual New York State English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics will be administered to all students in grades 3-8 later this spring. Students in grades 5 and 8 will also sit for the New York State science test. These tests are required by the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and are designed to provide important information about whether students are prepared to progress through school and graduate with the critical-thinking, problem-solving, and reasoning skills they need for long-term success in school, college, and careers, and to support students in their pursuit of economic security and a choice-filled life.

These tests are just one of several measures our schools use to assess student progress: grades, report cards, writing samples, projects, assignments, and other performance-based student work are equally important.

Dear Parent or Guardian,

This letter is to notify you that, our school, The SEEALL Academy, has been designated for Local Support and Improvement (LSI) by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) for the 2023-24 school year based on the performance of our students on New York State assessments in school year 2022-23. The designation “Local Support and Improvement (LSI),” recognizes that all schools, even higher performing schools like ours, are in a continuous improvement mode and can benefit from local support from their districts to meet students’ differentiated needs. LSI is the best accountability status currently available. The school’s designation is part of the state’s accountability system consistent with federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) requirements.

I’m confident that the programs and interventions that are being implemented citywide and at our school will continue to make the 2023-24 school year a high-quality educational experience for your child.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support. Our entire school staff is committed to ensuring a successful year for our students and school community. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 718-851-8070.
